Hoops for Hope

...was a good cause. Because the Uintah Basin is so far from good cancer treatment, to get treatment is an entire day's event. When people have to go every other day, or every day it gets costly as well. Hoops for Hope was a charity program run by the high school to help raise money for the "cancer van" to run daily trips from Vernal to the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City. It was a success.

The high school boys and girls basketball teams got money for every point they scored, the students 'chucked their change' and the radio station that I work for had an on-air auction of Utah Jazz items and a 2-ball competition in which each point a member of our staff or other participant scored was worth money. I was asked to participate and I joyfully said yes. My donors offered $20 cash, $5 a point and another at $1 a point. Because my teammate and I scored 36 points in 90 seconds we raised over $200 in donations. It was awesome. The van is now up and running.

A side note, Kristin first wrote about this fundraiser for the Vernal Express and so we call it a family effort. A good event that can make anyone feel good. Check out Vernal dot com and read up on it. You may have to search "hoops for hope."

The event was last Friday and the picture above was taken right before my partner and I began. We scored 36 which was the most until the last round when two teams got into the 40's. We got to participate in front of the entire Uintah High School student body during their pep rally. The drill team took state, so it was also a celebration of that. The drill team perormed three times and the my partner, Charles, who is native american (and the national champion of hoop dancing) also performed later during the pep rally.

The girls basketball team lost in their first round playoff game, but the boys won. So they get to play in the quarter-finals at the E-Center. Good Luck Utes. (Uintah Utes, not U of U)

Brace Yourself...RYANNA'S FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!

7:30 AM - Mom and Dad give me a gobble and go hippo! This bad boy can pick up stuff that I run over and the seat can stand up for me to walk behind-awesome! I was a little worried when Mom burst into my room singing...but when it was followed by getting this sweet ride I decided to let it slide.

10:30AM - Neighborhood babies came over to celebrate with me. Mom had prepared a nice spread.

Phase 1: Naturally I am afraid of the pink mound Mom has placed on my tray - I've never seen such a dish and can't help but feel suspicious.

Phase 2: I gave it a try and WHOA!!!! Where has Mom been hiding this stuff!!!

Phase 3: More More More

So now that we all had a sufficient sugar high it was time for pictures. These are my friends!

12:00PM - So once the first party was over Mom said it was time for another one with Dad! So another crowd sang to me and proceeded to stuff their faces with my pink mounds! What is going on?

After a birthday nap I was more than happy to thank my Daddy for all the birthday fun so far.

4:30PM - WHAT! It's not over yet? More celebrating eh...I can handle days like these.

There was a knock on the door and Mr. UPS had delivered a package - FOR ME! FULL OF CLOTHES! But wait there was more. Daddy went and got the mail and there was A CARD! FOR ME! FULL OF MONEY!

Neighbor lady Mary showed up and suddenly there was more Singing! And now a larger mound of pink only this time it is on FIRE! I got a piece of it and it was even better than this morning! Finger lickin' good.

Mary brought me a really cool bag full of wood. That's right I said wood folks. I didn't quite get it but hey it's the thought right! Mom seemed to really enjoy stacking the wood so they'll be good to have around. What a great first birthday!

Update: My Church Ball Team is 5 and OH!

Tonight was too close for comfort. We were missing one of our starters and it showed. We weren't shooting very well at all. To continue my Oh-fur streak, I missed my two outside shots (3 pointers) in the first half. I was able to manage a few 3 point plays and I got to the free throw line twice in the first half.

The second half can be divided into two halves. The first half of the second half was aweful. At one point the other team nearly took the lead and with 8 mintes left they were on the line losing by one with two free throws. Luckily they missed both and two minutes later we decided that it was way too close of a game. We started running on them and that opened up some lanes and open 3-point shots. I nailed 3 3's in a row to end my oh-fur 7 streak and Brandon Johnson continued to outrun their defense. We actually won the game by more than 12 points.

Two more games left, with a week off next week for Kent's Birthday... er... Valentines day.

I'm FAMOUS

Need a Ryanna Fix?

Playing catch with Mom is fun. Especially when the baby has better aim than the adult.

Grandma Scoffield had heard so much about Ryanna saying "hi!" to everyone and everything that I had to get a video to show her. Ryanna loves to say hi to strangers.

Ryanna's favorite books now are the First Word type books. She learns so fast!

So this is the gym at Brian's office. The basketball court alone is great but check out all the exercise equipment and huge flat screen TV! That's why I go there and work out while Ryanna naps. Not to mention Ryanna loves to crawl around on the smooth floor.

Ryanna is not a fan of the gate/fence. The kitchen floor gets dirty so fast so I have to keep her out, much to Ryanna's dismay.

Kids are starting early these days! Already texting her friends ;)
